An Introduction

The foundation stone of Char Dham Yatra destinations in India was laid by the great 8th century reformer and philosopher Shankaracharya. He extensively traveled India and clubbed four holy destinations pertaining to the preserver God Vishnu.

Going by the topography, the destinations of Char Dham yatra form a perfect square with Badrinath and Rameshwaram falling on the same longitude and Dwarka and Puri on the same latitude. Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri and Rameshwaram are located in the northern, western, eastern and southern points of India.
